On the land-based front, we do not expect too much expansion. With the launch of the William Hill Sports Book at Tropicana Casino, there’s only two candidates left in Atlantic City to start novels. One, Hard Rock Casino, we expect to go live with a retail book this year, as Hard Rock has signed a Letter of Intent with Gambling Innovation Group to an omni-channel sportsbook platform.
As previously mentioned, Freehold Raceway, owned by Penn National Gaming and Greenwood Gambling (proprietor of Parx Casino at Pennsylvania) is also a prime candidate to enter the land-based sports gambling kingdom.
On the internet front, there is much more space to maneuver as every sports betting license holder is entitled to three branded sites, or skins. Some, such as Monmouth Park and Resorts AC, have surfaced two skins, but many others, including heavyweights Tropicana, Hard Rock Casino, and Golden Nugget, haven’t launched any. Anticipate multiple AC-branded online sportsbooks to pop up in the not-so-distant future, and also for other businesses such as the Kindred Group (currently aligned with Hard Rock Casino) and Australian-based PointsBet (partnered with the Meadowlands) to also launch online books in New Jersey.

Fortunately, the nation was primed to offer sports gambling for several years, enabling regulators to release emergency regulations only two days after Murphy penned the sport gambling bill into legislation.
New Jersey law mandates that only qualified casinos and racetracks be eligible for a sports gambling license, which online sportsbook operators have to be partnered with a permit holder. Other factors of interest:

Shortly after sports betting regulations were posted in August 2012, professional sports leagues filed a suit against Christie and New Jersey. The upcoming several years were riddled with disappointment for New Jersey, since it lost in the district courts, then double in the Third Circuit Court of Appeals. Subsequently in June 2014, the nation has been delivered yet another catastrophic blow, if the U.S. Supreme Court refused to accept New Jersey’s allure.

Just a few weeks later, New Jersey passed a new sports gambling bill, and at a ribbon cutting ceremony in the Monmouth Park sportsbook on June 14, 2018, the industry has been born.Today, it stinks.
